New Years Eve

I fell in love

Sitting on that windowsill

Cig in your mouth

And eyes full of fleeting glances

The sky burned bright

With minutes left til midnight

Then the sky came down

And the streets went up, up in flames

A red night, a smoky room

Foreign faces and foreign tongues

Shutters thrown open to the streets below

Only one story up, but we were oh so high

A year passed in the blink of an eye

Those champagne bubbles now long gone, soaked into the sidewalk

But the same songs still sing in my mind

And my jacket still smells of that night
