Oh, how you sit like a leaf on the water. How you dance like a twig in the wind. How your hair cascades like waterfalls in free flow. How your temper reminds me of the Midwest skies, your smile of Groundhog’s day. I see you in the pale moonlight, I smell you in the green of the forests. How can I hate my muse when your laugh substantiates me? When your presence soothes like a Summer river, and your touch is moss on my skin? I fell for a forest nymph, a fire in the wreck of it all. I miss your touch on nights when the sky strays purple. I listen for your voice when the water is shallow, missing when we would wade deep. I find you in the places I wasn’t looking. I look for you when you’re not on my mind… in the stillness after the rain, in the place before nightfall… somewhere over the horizon line… before you had to go away. I think you left me somewhere in the fray…
If you look to the sky tonight, maybe you'll see my reflection gazing down at you from the stars, admiring you from afar. If a world away is as close as I can get, perhaps Heaven is the space between worlds.
